Residency Exemption Application

  • All single students who have earned less than 64 hours of college credit, are enrolled in 12 or more hours at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAHuntsville) are required to live in UAHuntsville student housing. Studies have indicated that living on campus will contribute to the overall success of the student through specialized programming and providing support mechanisms designated to promote academic and developmental success.

    Students may petition to the University Housing Office for a waiver of the live-on-campus requirement for the reasons listed on the application. All supporting documentation must be attached to this form and forwarded to the Housing Office at least 21 days prior to the first day of classes of the semester for which the waiver is requested. Students who knowingly provide false information will be subject to disciplinary sanctions including assessment of room and meal charges for the appropriate semester(s). Release from the on-campus requirement must be approved by committee review. Appeals of the committee findings are to be made to the Assistant Director for University Housing no later than 10 days of the date of notification of the committee’s findings. Students who have not been released from the live on campus requirement will be assessed room and meal charges.

    Appeal letters should be submitted by the student. Parents may write letters of support for the appeal process.
